Network Engineer

  • Understands performance of network services from network design through implementation, maintenance, and upgrading of existing networks.  Has thorough knowledge of general Local Area Network (LAN)/Campus Area Network (CAN)/ Wide Area Network (WAN) administration.  
  • Coordinates with all responsible users and sites to resolve network or system incidents 
  • Translates business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, CAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs and orders 
  • Performs engineering analysis of telecommunications alternatives in support of strategic modernization efforts and telecommunications enhancement design for medium and large-scale telecommunication infrastructures   
  • Assists telecommunications end users, telecommunications operations personnel, and telecommunications strategic program management with network interfaces.  Analyzes design, specifications, and related documents   
  • The Network Engineer will coordinate Communications and Networking requirements with multiple program offices, manage a multi-disciplinary stakeholder IPT and plan the development and delivery of communications and networking requirements for the full QRC/POR lifecycle 
Specific Qualifications:
  • 6 years progressively complex experience working collaboratively with program management, systems engineers, schedule analysts, and operations personnel in a concurrent engineering environment
  • 5 years of direct experience with network development
  • 2 years of experience managing network development teams
  • 2 years in cyber or C4ISR systems, computers, and tactical communications systems
  • Demonstrated ability to author point papers and policy documents for executive approval, to brief and advise senior officers including flag and SES levels, and excellent communication skills including the ability to work on multi-functional teams
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware
  • Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers
  • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
  • Ability to create accurate network diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems
  • Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff within and outside of IT and outside the organization
  • A self-starter able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment.  Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Dependable and flexible when necessary
  • Network security experience
  • LAN and WAN experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Information Technology related field of study (equivalent experience may be considered)
